Strong Running 1967 Volvo 123GT Project

$

0

This 1967 Volvo 123GT is a Canadian built example equipped with the desirable 4.56 limited slip differential. Only one photo is provided and shows the car sitting on incorrect and ill-fitted wheels, but it’s said to run very well and retain unique GT spec items like dash-mounted tach, steering wheel, Recaro seats and more. Provided there’s no serious hidden rust or crash damage it’d definitely be worth restoring. Find it here on Kijiji in Vancouver, Canada for $12,000.

$3000 1949 Alvis TA-14 Mulliner Saloon Project

This 1949 Alvis TA-14 Mulliner Saloon requires plenty of work but comes from a marque that makes it worthy of the task. We are always impressed with Alvis cars, and though this one has nowhere near the appeal of the sporting and open models, it is still an interesting specimen. All four doors are off but included, and many parts are in various boxes in bins. Find it here on Craigslist In Waukesha, Wisconsin for $3000. Special thanks to BaT reader Jim M. for this submission!

Oakland Roadster Show in ’51: Peretto 1937 Ford Custom

This 1937 Ford was heavily customized in the early ’50s by the Peretto brothers of Alameda, California. It was shown at the 1951 and 1952 Oakland Roadster Shows, and won its class in the ’51 event. Somewhere along the line fell into the hands of someone who modified the front end design, but the prettier ’46 Chevy grille components shown below remain with the car today. Find it here on eBay in Ocala, Florida, with substantial info on the build here on Custom Car Chronicle. Special thanks to BaT reader George A. for this submission!

Rare in the USA: 1994 Ford Escort Cosworth Rally Car

This Ford Escort Cosworth is a left-hand-drive former rally car that has been modified for track duty. The seller says that it has been sitting for a long time and runs rough. Street legality seems unlikely, but this one would be fantastic as a rally starter. Find it here on Craigslist in southern New Hampshire for $23,500. Special thanks to BaT reader John D. for this submission!

1955 Austin Healey 100-4 Project

This 1955 Austin Healey 100-4 is sold as a partially complete project with a free but non-running engine. This one will take some substantial effort to make look good, but could probably be made to run and drive without too much more than an engine rebuild. We’d be plenty happy with a scruffy or primered Healy with the windshield in attack position. Find it here on Hemmings in Cornelius, North Carolina for $15,900.

1990 Consulier GTP Project

This 1990 Consulier GTP has quite a way to go before hitting the track again, but challenging looks aside these were acclaimed by the press for their capabilities. No VIN or title mean street use will be unlikely, but the stout, included Chrysler/Shelby turbo four should make for a fun track day toy. Missing fiberglass bits may be a challenge to source or fabricate, but we imagine that glass was OEM sourced by Mosler. Find it here on eBay in Delray Beach, Florida with no reserve.

Flat Twelve: Dual Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Replica

$

0

This 1971 Porsche 917/10 replica is one of the most creative home builds we’ve run across in a while. We like the seller’s utterly casual, straight-faced tone when mentioning that it was built using a 1:18 scale Jagermeister livery model for scale and that it’s powered by two Subaru flat sixes mounted crank-to-crank, and though apparently done on a shoestring budget, build quality looks to be pretty good and we certanily can’t fault the seller’s ambition. Find it here on eBay in East Hartford, Connecticut with no reserve beyond a $40k starting bid.

Flat Twelve: Home Built Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Tribute

An illuminating aerial shot of the seller’s garage forecourt depicts the 917 alongside a toasted looking Jaguar MkX with fender stripes, a Miata, several motorcycles, and some sort of homemade early 90′s Formula tribute street car project. The car is only shown wearing bodywork once in a photo dating from nearly three years ago, and though fiberlass looked quite rough at that point mechanicals do appear largely finished. This suggests a stalled project, and as many will know the final 20% of any project often contains the most frustrating work.

Flat Twelve: Home Built Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Tribute

Bare chassis shots date from summer of 2010, and though welds look a bit heavy handed, steel tube framework seems well thought out for suspension pick-up as well as driveline and body mounting hardpoints. C6 Corvette suspension is a good choice for easy parts availability and ultimate performance capability, and a large aftermarket means tuning possibilities are near-limitless. Good quality QA1 double adjustable coilovers will should allow a wide range of ride height and damping/springing options, and though wrapped in fresh Michelins wheels look like a cheap afterthought.

Flat Twelve: Home Built Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Tribute

Two three liter, water-cooled flat sixes taken from 2007 Subaru Tribecas are connected at the crank, the seller adding that coil and injector wires have been spliced so that a single computer will fire cylinder one on the first motor while simultaneously triggering cylinder six on the other. We’re sure this could be made to work well enough, but ideally it should be re-wired with a custom-tuned standalone system.

Flat Twelve: Home Built Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Tribute

Power is sent through a single, standard 5-speed Tribeca automatic, and we question whether it will be able to handle double the power Subaru designed it for—490 HP in total. We’d prefer a manual transaxle, and would budget in a swap beforehand if we were considering bidding. Porsche parts include a 914 steering rack and 911 RSR taillights.

Flat Twelve: Home Built Subaru Powered Porsche 917/10 CanAm Tribute

Wiring and bodywork still need to be completed, and the seller neglects to mention whether its ever ran in its current configuration. Starting over with a custom wiring harness and aftermarket ECU shouldn’t be too difficult, and could always be left to a shop if electrics aren’t your thing. Fiberglass is simple enough to work with, but professional looking results won’t come easy to a beginner. Our main concern is with the automatic, and we hope someone is crazy enough to buy this thing and fit it with a proper gearbox.

No Reserve: 2 Liter 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Project

This 1960 Alfa Giulietta Spider (chassis AR14510252) is a mostly complete looking but non-running, non-matching numbers car in need of restoration. Rust is visible, but underbody shots show what look to be good bones including rockers, subframes and most floor panels. This one’s incorrect two liter motor will mean it’s never going to win a concours, but may help to keep its price low enough that someone can turn it into a fun, good-looking driver for a reasonable outlay. Find it here on eBay in Belmont, Massachusetts with no reserve.

No Reserve: 2 Liter 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Project

Photos are on the small side, but bodywork looks reasonably straight with decent paint that may even be salvageable. In the case that it did require some straightening, we’d likely respray it in this same shade of white as it suits the car quite well—there’s plenty of red Alfas out in the world already. Headlight rings are missing, but the car appears to be largely intact otherwise.

No Reserve: 2 Liter 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Project

Correct looking seats are included but will need to be reupholstered, the seller adding that gauges, steering wheel and all glass pieces are included and presumed to be in usable condition. Floors look pretty good, but we’d go over everything including the trunk with a fine-toothed comb before putting down mats or carpet. Dash knobs, hub caps and folding top hardware are all included, but the jack, tool roll, owner’s manual, spare and rubber mats are missing.

No Reserve: 2 Liter 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Project

Sitting stationary since 1987, storage conditions aren’t mentioned but were likely pretty good for the car to survive the past 27 years so well intact. A later two liter/5-speed swap should make for an appreciably faster car when resurrected, though it’s not said if the motor turns over by hand. Brakes, fuel and hydraulic lines, bushings and pretty much anything else than can deteriorate over time will need work, but provided the car contains limited rust these should be pretty straightforward and relatively easy jobs.

No Reserve: 2 Liter 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Project

Immaculately preserved originals and high quality restorations have their place, and we certainly appreciate both, but a nice, stress-free driver sounds like the best way forward for this example. We hope it’s back up and running soo, and that the new driver uses every last ounce of its two liter’s extra oomph.

1955 Dodge Coronet 2 Door

This 1955 Coronet is described as a driver with a 270 Poly V8 and 2 speed auto trans, and though some engine modifications are listed the seller has original parts available. The interior is said to need attention as a previous owner had installed substandard patchwork on the floors, but we like this color combo and body style. Not a perfect example, but a nice driver in need of a little TLC. Find it here on For A Bodies Only in Sacramento, California for $6,300 OBO.

Parked 30 Years: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Project

$

0

This 1954 Cadillac Eldorado convertible was parked in a barn in 1985 and hasn’t ran under its own power since. Recently pulled from the barn where it was being kept with a few other Cadillacs kept in a similar state by their original owner, its motor is seized and rust has taken hold in the floors and rear rockers, but is said to be largely corrosion free otherwise including a good frame—definitely a prime restoration candidate. Find it here on eBay in Clarksville, Maryland with no reserve and fast bidding.

Parked 30 Years: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Project

Purchased new in San Antonio, the car was originally white as can be seen under surface rust and decaying paint. Trim is largely intact including rare wind wings, hub caps and fiberglass roof boot, the seller stating that the only missing Eldorado specific parts are limited to OEM gold crest door toppers. Bodywork does look surprisingly well-preserved for a car parked on a dirt floor for nearly 30 years, and though repairs will be needed, we’ve seen much worse brought back to life.

Parked 30 Years: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Project

The cabin will need lots of attention, as leather and most other trim has deteriorated heavily. The left rear passenger side floor has rusted through and now sports a sizeable hole, but if the frame is as nice as claimed this shouldn’t be too large a job. Instrumentation and switchgear appear to be largely intact, the dash including an OEM radio and dealer-installed A/C, but much like the seats, its leather has seen better days. Door and side panel trim look complete and restorable, while the clear tinted sun visors remain in good condition.

Parked 30 Years: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Project

The folding top is only shown in the up position and is presumed to need electromechanical work, but the soft material itself seems to be in decent condition. The seller adds that the trunk is solid, and though incomplete, receipts and registrations date back to the early 1960′s. Engine accessories look to be mostly accounted for, but belts are missing and the motor itself wears a fine layer of crud and surface corrosion. A full rebuild will likely be needed, with similar attention warranted for the transmission, suspension, electrics, brakes and fueling system.

Parked 30 Years: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Project

A big job lays ahead for the next owner, but as evidenced by heavy bidding there’s no lack of enthusiastic potential rebuilders. This one is likely destined for a high-dollar professional restoration and the concours circuit, but there’s always hope that a deep-pocketed and ambitious amateur will turn it into a great driver.

This 1971 240Z is offered with an upgraded L28 running a mild cam, fresh shocks, lowering springs and 14” Panasports. A new starter and brake booster are included but not installed, and the seller doesn’t recommend driving the car until the latter has been replaced. Rust is said to have been limited and now fully repaired, and several spare body panels and other parts are included in the sale. Find it here on Craigslist in Dublin, California for $7,500.

1967 Glas 1700GT Project

0

This 1967 Glas 1700GT project (chassis 211005704) is said to be a California car that had been left sitting since 1979. While the car needs a complete restoration, the seller states that it is nearly complete, the engine turns freely and the body is free of major rot. Price aside, the car appears to be a decent starting point for a serious refurbishment, and the end product will make for an interesting and unusual alternative to a BMW 2002 or Porsche 912. Find it here on eBay in Plaistow, New Hampshire with an $8k opening bid and no further reserve.

Lancia Fulvia Powered 1975 Avante Project

$

This 1975 Avante is a British built fiberglass special originally designed for VW mechanicals which has been partially adapted to receive the V4 and transaxle from a 1972 Lancia Fulvia. The body is rough but said to be made from good quality composite, and looks as if it might be somewhat attractive when finished. There’s plenty of work left to do, but parts include a short block and full engine—both in parts—as well as a recently serviced and complete unit which has compression but hasn’t been run. Find it here on eBay in Wolverhampton, England with no reserve.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

$
0
0

This 1958 Maserati 3500GT looks quite rough but largely complete, the seller adding that it hasn’t moved for many years. The “American motor” mentioned appears to be a small block Chevy, and it isn’t made clear whether or not the car has ever run in this configuration or if it is an unfinished swap. It’s clear that the original twin plug, twin cam straight six is gone, but mongrel or not it’s still a beautiful shape that deserves to be put back on the road. Find it here at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California for $79,500.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

Bumpers and several small trim pieces including various lenses are missing, but the cars looks to be mostly complete otherwise—including a rather unfortunate carb clearance hole cut into the original hood. These cars were bodied in aluminum, and though quite battered around the nose, rust isn’t a concern in this area.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

Underneath, floors and frame look OK if not great, but the complex and expensive to repair Superleggera body structure above may hide problems. Inspection won’t be easy, but isn’t something we’d skimp on if pondering a purchase.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

The cabin shows what looks like salvageable leather on the seating surfaces and upper dash, but door cards have started to sag and tear and will need recovering. All instruments appear to be intact, but veneers are dry and heavily darkened and will need replacement. We wish the carpets were pulled to show the floors underneath, but as is often repeated  it’s best to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

Camel hump heads likely indicate the motor to be a Corvette-sourced 327. Installation looks to be complete, but messy wiring and missing belts and hoses raise the question of whether or not the job was ever finished. Though of course we’d prefer to see the car with its original motor, this setup likely weighs the same or less and seems to rest further behind the front wheels’ centerline than Maser’s factory six.

Corvette Powered: 1958 Maserati 3500GT Project

There are a lot of big ifs with this project, but the biggest of all remains if its hiding serious rust underneath those shapely aluminum body panels. Provided it’s relatively unaffected there’s potential for it to be a rather straightforward project, and short of finding an old Maserati six lying around the SBC is as good an option as any other.

$

This 1958 356A (chassis 101811) languished as a partially finished restoration for 20 years, the seller adding that it has dry floor pans, wheel wells and torsion bar mounts. Factory Meissan Blue over dark red and blue corduroy is a great color combo, and sale includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Thought to have competed in period Solo racing, the car’s motor was rebuilt at the time of storage and is said to have ran well recently on a test stand. Find it here on Craigslist in Costa Mesa, California for $44,500.

This 1973 Maserati Merak was parked as an abandoned restoration project 18 years ago and doesn’t appear to have weathered very well since. The seller’s description is minimal, but crucially they add that water is likely to have entered the open carbs. Almost certainly a parts donor at this point, it does benefit from being sold on a clean title, however. Find it here on eBay in Bellingham, Massachusetts wit reserve not met.

Mystery Racer: $4K 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider w/ Period Trophies

$

0

This 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider (chassis 1495.00472) is listed as a “Pininfarina Race Car” in a brief description, but a search of the VIN in Luigi Fusi’s book “Tutte le Vetture dal 1910″ (All cars from 1910) reveals it may actually be a 750D Series 1956 Giulietta Spider. The car is said to have a tremendous race history, the seller photographing a large collection of trophies, badges, and emblems as evidence, and we’d love to dig in further and find out its real story.  Find it here on Craigslist in Putnam, Connecticut for $4k.

$4k 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

A few forum goers over at Alfabb have mentioned that some of Fusi’s numbers may have been incorrect, but considering the mixed quality of factory records from the time, his book seems to be as reliable an indicator of its history as any other source. The car will need just about everything, but its body appears to be largely intact, while the drivetrain unfortunately appears to be absent with no mention of its whereabouts made. The panels look mostly uniform and salvageable, but the majority of the trim will need to be sourced. The engine bay shows some carefully applied rope holding the crossmember to the chassis, so we’d count on a decent amount of fabrication work.

$4k 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

The bare interior will need everything from seats to gauges, but we’re encouraged to see what looks like mostly dry, solid flooring beneath. The inside seems like it’s been home for extra storage and perhaps a few garage mice, and we’d be interested to see how it cleans up. There’s no mention of any parts or spares available, but perhaps some answers might be found in a box shown resting just about where a passenger normally would.

$4k 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

We’d assume the drivetrain for this example is unavailable, leaving the new owner the option of a upgrade without compromising originality, and the engine bay looks like it’d be a good home for a mildly built 1600 with big Webers. The chassis looks as though it’s retained just enough suspension to move it around, and the car sits on a set of steel wheels that we’d replace with some TZ alloys.

1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Trophys

The seller indicates the car has been in hundreds of races at Watkins Glen, Belmont, and Lime Rock, and we admit to being quite intrigued by all the potential history on offer here. We don’t imagine that the mystery will go unsolved for long, and will be keeping an ear to the ground about future developments.

This 1965 Toyota Land Cruiser wagon (chassis FJ4524996) is a stalled restoration project sold without engine, transmission or transfer case. The truck appears largely complete apart from the missing drivetrain, but rust will need attention in a few areas, particularly where someone has apparently tried to fix a floor panel with fiberglass. We think it’d be great with an injected crate v8 and 5-speed. Find it here on eBay in Henderson, Nevada with reserve not met.

This 1988 Delta HF Integrale was imported from Canada 10 years ago by the seller and dry-stored since. It’s said to run and drive but will need a new head gasket, while the body shows some rust as well as faded and chipped paint, though the interior looks to be in much better condition and additional parts are included. We’d  tend to what needs work then immediately find some Compomotive TH2′s to replace the generic looking wheels it currently wears. Find it here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon for $16k.
