$2600 FJ60 Driver: 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser

This 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser reportedly runs well with healthy four-wheel drive, and mileage is given as 269k–certainly a lot of miles, but not unusually high for an FJ60. The truck has some rust issues however, and won’t currently pass smog due to what’s described as “slightly high NOx,” stemming from what the seller believes is a bad EGR valve. Still, at this price, it could be worth checking out if you’re local. Find it here on Craigslist in Golden, Colorado for $2,600.

The truck shows rust to one degree or another pretty much everywhere, and the seller says there’s more underneath in the fender wells. Glass looks to be good all around though, and the truck retains factory bumpers and ride height, too.

The interior is pretty ratty, particularly the filthy front seats, but excluding a radio, everything appears to remain in place, and wind-up windows means there’s less to go wrong. Note the tiny, central, 4000 RPM redlined tach behind the funky OEM steering wheel.

Up front, the 4.2 liter 2F straight-six looks complete and stock, but hoses and lines all look past their prime and will likely be due for replacement soon. Though tough and simple to work on, these engines drink fuel at an alarming rate and offer little in the way of accelerative reward.

This one could probably be made to run another 100k or so without too much trouble, or you could toss it out and go for a V8 swap as part of a larger restoration effort–at under three grand, it’s easy to dream.
